UAEU, research centre analyse water resources in Fujairah
It is expected that these studies and research will result in a complete assessment of the water resources in the Emirate of Fujairah
The National Water and Energy Centre at the United Arab Emirates University, in cooperation with the Fujairah Research Centre and the Fujairah Environment Authority, conducted water resources-related studies in the Emirate of Fujairah. This research is aligned with the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036, which aims to ensure the sustainability of water during natural conditions and extreme emergency conditions and comes in line with the UAE applicable laws and the specifications of the World Health Organisation and contributes to the prosperity and progress of society and the sustainability of the growth of the national economy.
The research team conducted several field visits to more than 215 wells and field sites. It is expected that these studies and research will result in a complete assessment of the water resources in the Emirate of Fujairah.
Prof. Ahmed Murad, Associate Provost for Research said: “The United Arab Emirates University pays great atention to research activities for the sustainability of water resources in the country and in the region. Therefore, the university is supporting this research project that is being carried out by the National Water and Energy Centre and funded by the Fujairah Research Centre.” The university also identified water as a strategic research priority for the strategic plan 2023-2026. The university works to enable scientific research to contribute to the development goals through various funding programmes. Research programmes are linked to academic programmes to enhance research outcomes and to meet societal needs.
Dr. Mohsen Sharif, project manager said: “The centre contributes effectively to the studies and the development of solutions that contribute to the sustainability of water resources and the preservation of the environment.”
Dr. Dalal Al Shamsi, Director of the National Water and Energy Centre, added: “This field activity comes within a series of visits to the site to reach the desired results of the research project.”
Dr. Fouad Al Amghari, Director of the Fujairah Research Centre, emphasised the importance of this programme to train young professionals in the Emirate of Fujairah in the field of water and energy.
Asilah Al Mualla, Director of the Fujairah Environment Agency, said that this project comes in line with the strategic plan of the Emirate of Fujairah, which aims to preserve water resources and develop a sustainable environment.
It is worth mentioning that the National Water and Energy Centre is a research centre at the United Arab Emirates University and provides applied scientific research, environmental impact assessment studies and consultations in the areas of sustainability of water resources and energy.
The centre aims to evaluate and support to water and energy-related information in the country, in partnership with government institutions and national and local bodies, by analysing data and statistics and conducting scientific research to enhance the decision-making process and to achieve the sustainability of water and energy resources in the country.
Moreover, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has launched a new model of the “Abu Dhabi Programme for Effortless Customer Experience” offering straighforward steps to customers requesting a licence for deepening groundwater well.
The Programme is a pioneering new model that will enable effortless customer experiences across the Abu Dhabi Government and position the emirate as a leader.
The new model, which addresses the entire customer experience, is benchmarked against international standards and will include significant investments in human capital through a government-wide effortless customer experience training programme.
The Abu Dhabi model uses a collaborative approach to address the entire customer experience across four dimensions: direction, design, development and delivery.
The programme also includes five strategic components and also has a tailored design lab in collaboration with advanced partners, developing the customer experience agents’ capabilities to enable them to provide world-class customer experience and finally establishing a pioneering measurement model with a focus on the customer effort score (CES).
