PTI to quit Punjab assembly if dissolution delayed

- Tariq Butt / NNI

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehrik-e-insaf (PTI) on Friday decided to resign from Punjab assembly if Chief Minister Pervez Elahi delayed its dissolution ater securing the vote of confidence from the assembly.

Sources said that PTI chairman Imran Khan, at a meeting with senior party leadership, said the party must ensure that the chief minister obtained vote of confidence before Jan.11 and dissolve the assembly, otherwise the party would resign from the assembly.

On the other hand, Imran was also briefed on the ongoing contacts between two provincial lawmakers for support in the CM’S trust vote.

Imran has informed the Punjab and central leadership of his final decision, saying that the party MPAS will resign if the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly was delayed.

Meanwhile, Elahi has distanced himself from a probe into an assassination atempt of Imran to avoid any blame from his coalition partner if the investigation’s conclusion does not meet the expectation of PTI’S top leadership.

Quoting unnamed informed sources, a report said that from the constitution of a JIT and all those assisting it, the chief minister has not interfered and let the PTI leaders appoint their choice officers as its members.

From the very beginning, the chief minister did not agree with Imran’s nominations of those who he alleged were behind an atempt on his life.

A source atached with Elahi’s Pakistan Muslim League-q (PML-Q) sounded upset with the “conspiracy theories” of PTI. He said that Imran and the PTI do not need any enemy. “They are enough to destroy themselves,” the source said, lamenting that despite popularity, the PTI is set on self-harming mode.

Imran has continued his atack on the military establishment and held some “powerful” people responsible for the atack on him and said these few “powerful” were also a hurdle to a fair probe into the Wazirabad atack.

The former premier and the PTI are now focusing on the JIT report, which has found that three firearms were used in the atack. Federal agencies, however, see litle credibility in the JIT’S findings.

The PTI leadership insisted that three attackers were involved in the assassination atempt. They added that no shot was fired by Imran’s guards.

Citing the JIT report, they said 14 bullets were found on the ground, 12 from one place, and two from another, while nine bullets were found from a building opposite the atack site of which seven were at one place and two at another.
