Gang of gamblers jailed
DUBAI: The Dubai Criminal Court imprisoned an Asian gang for 3 months on charges of renting a villa in Nad Al Hamar area, and running it for gambling. The suspects were arrested red-handed, and referred to the Public Prosecution in Dubai, where they were charged with organising a gambling game and preparing a place to receive those wishing to play it.
The court also fined each of the gangsters Dhs100,000 and ordered them to be deported from the country ater serving the jail sentence.
According to the case file, the incident took place in 2021, when information was received by the police about a den inside a villa in Nad Al Hamar area, which Asians used to gamble.
According to the statement of a police man in the interrogations, a team of investigators raided the villa ater obtaining a permit from the competent authorities, and found inside it Asians, a TV screen to watch the gambling game, and sums of money.
In the interrogations, the policeman added that the investigation team arrested those inside the villa, and one of them admited that he sub-leased it for Dhs60,000 per month from a compatriot woman.
On being questioned, the woman said that she rented the villa for Dhs450,000 annually from a real estate office in Nad Al Hamar area and offered it for rent. When one of the suspects reportedly wanted to rent it, she agreed.
One of the suspects stated that he worked as a waiter inside the villa and had nothing to do with the gambling crime. Another confessed that he came to the villa to gamble, ater he received an invitation from one of the game’s organisers.
