Abu Dhabi Police caution wayward motorists

ABU DHABI: The Directorat­e General of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police warned motorists of the dangers of stopping vehicles in the middle of the road for any reason, urging them to head to the nearest exit to maintain the safety of road users.

The police added, “In case of inability to move the vehicle, the driver must instantly contact the Command and Control Centre of the Operations Room phone number (999) to receive support to avoid serious accidents and obstructio­n of traffic.

Brigadier Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi, Director of the Directorat­e called on motorists to take some important measures in case of sudden vehicle breakdowns on the road, the most important of which are staying away from the road, using places designated for emergencie­s, using the right shoulder of the road only in cases of extreme necessity, and using the four-way warning signals.

He also stressed the importance of placing the reflective emergency triangle behind the broken down vehicle at a sufficient distance to alert drivers of other vehicles.

“Drivers must avoid siting in the broken down vehicle or standing on the road and must quickly call the emergency phone to seek help,” he added.

He also urged the need to focus and concentrat­e on the road while driving to avoid traffic accidents which oten result in deaths and serious injuries.

“It is very important to ensure safe driving through adhering to the decided speeds, using traffic lights, leaving a sufficient safety distance behind vehicles, and paying atention at red traffic lights,” he pointed out.
