AD Police reduce speeds on 8 roads amid 8-hour fog

ABU DHABI: Fog covered some coastal and inland areas of the country on Friday and continued for eight hours between 1am and 9am.

The fog began forming over KEZAD, Al Ajban, Al Falah, Al Faya Road, Seeh Shuaib and Al Wathba in Abu Dhabi, over Sweihan in Al Ain and over Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road towards Al Rahba, Al Maktoum Internatio­nal Airport, Madinat Hind and Jebel Ali in Dubai, while intermitte­nt fog formed over Dubai Internatio­nal Airport and other separate areas across the country.

The lowest temperatur­e of 7.5°C was recorded in Rakna in Al Ain City at 6am, while the second lowest temperatur­e of 9.9°C was recorded in Damtha at 05:30am UAE local time.

The National Centre of Meteorolog­y (NCM) called on road users and motorists to take caution and follow traffic instructio­ns during the fog and lower horizontal visibility in some inland and coastal areas. Meanwhile, as a result of the fog, Abu Dhabi Police reduced speeds to 80 km/h on 8 main roads: Al Faya (Al Ghadeer complex – Copri bridge), Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Road (Al Reef – Dubai), Abu Dhabi-sweihan Road (Sweihan Roundabout – Tilal Sweihan), Sweihan Road (Sweihan – Al Ajban), Abu Dhabi-al Ain Road (Al Faya bridge – Al Khazna), Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road (Madinat Al Riyadh – KEZAD bridge), Abu Dhabi-sweihan Road (Al Falah bridge – Zayed Military City roundabout) and Abu Dhabi-al Ain Road (Al Mafraq bridge – Al Wathba bridge).

They stressed the necessity for motorists to abide by the speed limit as shown on the traffic signs on the emirate’s roads during fog.

Saturday’s weather is expected to be clear in general and partly cloudy at times but humid at night and on Sunday morning in some coastal areas, especially the northern ones, with a chance of light fog. Light to moderate northweste­rly winds will blow, turning to southeaste­rly at 10 to 20 and up to 30 km/h, while the sea will have regular waves in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

Sunday’s weather will be clear in general to partly cloudy at times with a gradual rise in temperatur­e but will be humid at night and on Monday morning in some coastal areas. Light to moderate southeaste­rly to northeaste­rly winds will blow at 10 to 20 and up to 30km/h, while the sea will have regular waves in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
