Zardari briefed on security situation in the country
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has lauded the role of Pakistan’s armed forces in defending the national frontiers as well as their contributions towards socio-economic development of the country.
He was talking to Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Commitee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza who called on him in Islamabad on Friday.
Mirza briefed the president about the security situation of the country as well as the operational preparedness of the armed forces.
In the meeting, the CJCSC also highlighted that the armed forces of the country have the capability to effectively deal with internal and external security challenges.
Zardari said he had complete confidence in the security forces of the country to successfully overcome the internal and external security challenges.
The CJCSC felicitated Zardari on assuming the office of the President of Pakistan. The meeting expressed the resolve to stamp out the scourge of terrorism with the support of the nation.
Separately, british high commissioner to pakistan Jean Marriot held a special meeting with Interior Minister m oh sin ra zan aq via this office in islamabad and discussed a rat of issues.
The British High Commissioner was warmly welcomed by Naqvi at the Ministry of Interior building, where bilateral security co-operation and maters of mutual interest were also discussed.
Both sides expressed commitment to bolster relations and co-operation between their countries across various domains.
The British envoy also engaged in discussions regarding the upcoming Pakistan-england cricket series with Naqvi who is also Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Marriot has been the British High Commissioner to Pakistan since July 2023. Before taking up her current position, she was british high commissioner to Kenya (2019-23) and ambassador to yemen (2013-15).
She has previously served as Director of the UK’S Joint International Counter-terrorism Unit; joint FCDO Director for the Middle East and North Africa; Ambassador to Sana’a, Yemen (2013-15); Deputy and Acting Ambassador to Tehran; and as an adviser to the US Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke.
