ISLAMABAD: The body of a woman, who was allegedly subjected to torture by railway police officer Mir Hasan on a moving train, has been found near Chani Goth Railway Station in Bahawalpur, police said.

The policeman was arrested last week ater a video went viral in which he could be seen holding the woman by her hair and hiting her multiple times while other passengers watched silently.

However, a court in Hyderabad had later approved the cop’s bail the same day against a surety bond of Rs35,000.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Railways Abdullah Sheikh said that the incident took place on April 7 on Karachi to Lala Musabound Millat Express.

However, just a day ater the cop was released on bail, the woman’s body was found in Bahawalpur.

According to the police, the railway police officer took the woman — who belonged to Jaranwala’s Chak 40 Mor, Faisalabad — with him ater violently beating her on April 7.

The victim’s brother, Afzal, said that his sister used to work at a beauty parlour in Karachi and was coming to Jaranwala to celebrate Eid Al Fitr.

He also demanded that the death of his sister should be investigated.

It was earlier reported that the railway constable had come to check a ticket of the woman ater he was told that she was travelling without a pass.

However, during inspection, the woman denied that she was travelling without a ticket ater which the policeman tortured her in front of her children.

Later, the cop claimed that the woman had kidnapped the kids.

However, the policeman claimed that he thrashed the woman ater she misbehaved with him.

In a new twist, the Pakistan Railways spokesperson claimed on Monday that the woman, who was thrashed by a policeman on a train and later found dead, has died ater she jumped from the train.

However, in a statement, the PR official claimed that victim, Maryam Bibi, was suffering from mental health issues and she died ater jumping off Lala Musa-bound Millat Express near Chani Goth Railway Station.

“According to other passengers in the train, they called the police ater victim, Maryam Bibi, scatered their luggage and misbehaved with passengers,” PR spokesperson said.
