Number of young voters surges to 58.12 million: ECP

ISLAMABAD: The number of young voters between the age group of 18 and 35 years has swelled to a staggering figure of 58.12 million out of total 130.13 million voters as per the latest registered voters’ data shared by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

According to the statistics, there are now 24.66 million registered voters between the age of 18 and 25 years across the country, whereas those ranging between ages of 26-35 are 33.46 million.

Between 18 and 25 years of age and 26 and 35 years, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has 0.21 million and 0.26 million voters respective­ly while there are 1.10 million and 1.43 million voters in Balochista­n: 4.68 million and 6.21 million voters in Khyber Pakhtunkhw­a (KP); 4.92 million and 6.66 million voters in Sindh and 13.74 million and 18.87 million voters in Punjab.

Total numbers of registered voters, ranging between the age group of 36 and 45 are 28. 83 million throughout Pakistan, and if this figure is added to the age groups of 18 to 35 years of age, the overall number of voters up to 45 years of age comes to 86.96 million voters, which is well over 50 per cent of the total voters.

The voters’ data also shows that over 130 million voters include more than 60 million (46.18%) women and a litle over 70 million (53.82%) men, indicating the gender gap standing at 9.95 million. Out of the total gender gap of 9.95 million, Punjab contribute­s a difference of over five million, followed by Sindh (2.24m), KP (1.96m), and Balochista­n (0.662m).

Likewise, the total number of registered voters in Punjab has increased to 74.08 million, including 39.56 million (53.40pc) male and 34.53m (46.60pc) female voters.

Similarly, Sindh has 27.33 million registered voters, including 14.78 million (54.09%) male and 12.54m (45.91%) female voters. KP is home to a total of 22.17 million voters, out of which 12.07 million (54.43%) are males and 10.11m (45.57%) females.

The total number of voters in Balochista­n is 5.43 million and this includes a litle over three million (56.09%) male and 2.38m (43.91%) female. In Islamabad Capital Territory’s one million plus voters, the number of males is 0.574 million (52.46%), while the number of females comes to 0.520 million (47.53%).
