Sheikha Fatima Women’s Foundation opens in Kosovo
The support of the UAE is highly appreciated and esteemed by the government and people of Kosovo
The Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s Foundation was on Thursday inaugurated in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, with the atendance of Dr. Vjosa Osmani, President of Kosovo, and Mohamed Haji Al Khouri, Director-general of the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.
The foundation’s establishment is part of the humanitarian efforts of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak (the Mother of the Nation), Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), demonstrating her strong advocacy and support for women, as she believes in empowering women to increase their economic engagement and elevate their roles within families and society.
In her speech, Dr. Osmani said, “The support of the UAE, led by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as the efforts of Sheikha Fatima, are highly appreciated and esteemed by the government and people of Kosovo. Words of gratitude are not enough, and we cherish this distinguished support and cooperation between the two countries.” She then thanked Sheikha Fatima for launching the humanitarian initiative to support women in Kosovo, affirming that the foundation will help advance and improve the bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries, especially on issues concerning women.
She also expressed her appreciation for the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, headed by His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, for contributing to this endeavour.
Dr. Maitha Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State, delivered a speech reaffirming the keen interest and commitment of the UAE’S leadership to continue its humanitarian and developmental programmes in Kosovo.
She then highlighted the unlimited support of Sheikha Fatima for women in Kosovo, aimed at enhancing their skills and utilising their potential to yield positive results in terms of their status and contributions, whether for their families or society.
The foundation aims to train women in various skills through training courses ranging from 3 to 6 months, including language learning, information systems, kniting, and other skills, she added.
It also aims to act as a business incubator to accommodate aspiring female entrepreneurs wishing to market their businesses, with 140 women expected to benefit from these courses annually, Al Shamsi said in conclusion. Recently, Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak received a number of ambassadresses accredited to the UAE at Qasr Al Bahr.
During a Ramadan banquet hosted by Her Highness, Sheikha Fatima welcomed the diplomats and exchanged cordial talks with them on the good relations between th eu a ea nd their respective countries, as well as the most important areas of existing cooperation, especially in community, development, family and childhood affairs. she wished them a good stay in th eu a ea nd to work on strengthening relations between the UAE and their countries.
For their part, the ambassadresses praised the development and humanitarian efforts of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak at the regional and international levels, and her support for issues that concern women and children.
They pointed to Her Highness’ pivotal role in promoting Emirati women and empowering them to participate in the comprehensive development drive that the UAE is witnessing aross various fields.

Earlier, sheik ha fatima congratulated the women of the UAE and the entire world on the occasion of International Women’s Day (IWD), wishing them further success and leadership. The IWD, which is observed annually on 8th March, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This year’s theme is ‘Invest in women: Accelerate progress”.

They stand as beacons of commitment, integrity, and devotion, reflecting the progress and evolution of communities. Their selfless contributions have not only enriched their communities and nations but have also ascended to a broader humanitarian cause, affirming their esteemed stature and vital contributions,” Sheikha Fatima said.
