Junkie jailed for 5 years
DUBAI: The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Arab to five years in jail to be followed by deportation and fined him Dhs100,000 for possessing and abusing a psychotropic substance, resisting the police and refraining from giving them the necessary test sample to prove that it contained narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances.
The case took place in Al Hamriya area when the police received a tip-off that the defendant possessed and was abusing narcotic drugs.
A policeman stated that a team of detectives moved to the defendant’s place of residence where the defendant was seen looking for something in a sandy area and seemed to be under the influence of drugs. The team of detectives arrested the defendant ater telling him they were detectives.
The policeman stated in the interrogations that the defendant strongly resisted the detectives during his arrest.
Ater being searched, it was found that the defendant possessed a capsule of psychotropic substances.
He was brought to the General Department of Anti-narcotics at Dubai Police so that the necessary sample would be taken from him. He, however, refused to do so and asked them to contact his country’s consulate.
On interrogation, the defendant admited that he possessed a capsule containing a psychotropic substance but denied the charges of resisting the police and procrastinating to give the required test sample.
