ISLAMABAD: The ruling Pakistan Muslim Leaguenawaz (PML-N) has requested the party supremo Nawaz Sharif to take over its office of the president in place of his younger brother Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah, accompanied by other party leaders, told reporters that the proposals and recommendations of its session held on Friday would be presented to Nawaz Sharif on his return from China where he has been for the past three days on a private visit.

Sanaullah said that the party will overcome its shortcomings and drawbacks and will have the same narrative that Nawaz Sharif would propound.

He recalled that way back in 2017 Nawaz Sharif was divested of the position of the president of the PML-N [by the Supreme Court which said it could not hold the slot ater his disqualification by the top court].

Sanaullah said while the prime minister was striving to steer Pakistan out of the economic crisis, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was working hard to give relief to the people at large.

He said that the meeting expressed confidence in the performance of Shahbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.

He said there was no bar in the party to express opinion by its leaders.

Sanalullah said the PML-N firmly stands with its governments in Punjab and Centre while Nawaz Sharif would lead it. He said the participants of the session came out with their suggestions to improve the people’s lot.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Maryam Nawaz, who recently atended a police passing out parade in Lahore donning a Punjab police uniform, is set to wear the uniform of another force.

As per sources, Maryam Nawaz will atend the passing passing-out parade of the Punjab Elite Force, in the new uniform.

The sources claimed that the Elite Force has also prepared a black uniform for Maryam, which she will wear at the ceremony.

Although the police department has completed preparations for the passing-out parade at the Elite Training Centre but the event’s date is yet to be finalised.

Ater an immense reaction particularly from social media users, the Punjab police spokesperson maintained that according to police dress regulations, the chief minister can wear the uniform.

“The Central Police Office received hundreds of messages praising the move while women police officers and personnel are celebrating the occasion by sharing pictures of Maryam in police uniform on social media,” the spokesman added.
