Germany invites workforce from Kerala
TRIVANDRUM: Germany, which is aggressively promoting skilled migrant workforces has launched a programme to encourage professionals from Kerala to relocate.
Goethe-institut, Germany’s cultural institute promoting language and encouraging cultural exchange worldwide, is holding free sessions for aspirants this week.
Officials said the programmes in Trivandrum and Kochi will help promote fair migration of skilled workforce.
In June last year, the German parliament passed a new law that reduces red tape and lowers hurdles for migrant workers from outside the European Union. The new law adopts a points-based system that considers age, skills, and qualifications and lowers salary, educational level, and language ability criteria.
The law makes it easier to migrate to the European nation, even without a job offer, and incentives include the ability to bring parents in addition to spouses and children.
Dr Syed Ibrahim, director of the Goethe-zentrum and Germany’s honorary consul to Kerala, said this is the first in a series of events planned for the southern state.
“This project provides comprehensive information and quality support to help skilled jobseekers from India integrate into the German labour markets,” he said.
“At these sessions, participants will be able to meet with experts and inquire about a wide range of topics like family relocation, school systems, training and leisure.” Goethe-institut’s pre-integration services include the preparation of the candidates for “success in daily and professional life.”
“Living and Working in Germany” sessions include personal consultations, intercultural training, exam-format training, support, and guidance on language learning.
Prorecognition, under Germany’s education and research ministry, is taking the sessions at Goethe-zentrum centres on Thursday and Friday.
Prorecognition experts will provide information on success factors for employment in Germany, the documents required, and the steps involved in the recognition process.
