Woman hid drugs in peanut butter

A woman who stashed marijuana in peanut butter during a botched mission to smuggle it into the UAE was locked up on Thursday.

The unemployed African woman, 30, was intercepted at the Dubai International Airport on Sept.19 with two plastic rolls stuffed with peanut butter in which she had stashed 814.2 grammes of marijuana.

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced her to ten years in jail to be followed by deportation.

It also ordered her to pay a fine worth Dhs50, 000. The ruling remains subject to appeal within 14 days.

A female customs inspector said her workmate manning a baggage scanner suspected the lump inside the woman’s bag.

“I stopped her, searched the bag and landed on two plastic bags containing peanut butter.”

“I searched within the butter and discovered each contained another plastic bag stuffed with a marijuanalike substance,” said the inspector, adding that she referred he woman to the Antinarcotics Department.
