Woman hid drugs in peanut but­ter

A woman who stashed mar­i­juana in peanut but­ter dur­ing a botched mis­sion to smug­gle it into the UAE was locked up on Thurs­day.

The un­em­ployed African woman, 30, was in­ter­cepted at the Dubai In­ter­na­tional Air­port on Sept.19 with two plas­tic rolls stuffed with peanut but­ter in which she had stashed 814.2 grammes of mar­i­juana.

The Dubai Crim­i­nal Court sen­tenced her to ten years in jail to be fol­lowed by de­por­ta­tion.

It also or­dered her to pay a fine worth Dhs50, 000. The rul­ing re­mains sub­ject to ap­peal within 14 days.

A fe­male cus­toms in­spec­tor said her work­mate man­ning a bag­gage scan­ner sus­pected the lump in­side the woman’s bag.

“I stopped her, searched the bag and landed on two plas­tic bags con­tain­ing peanut but­ter.”

“I searched within the but­ter and dis­cov­ered each con­tained another plas­tic bag stuffed with a mar­i­jua­nalike sub­stance,” said the in­spec­tor, adding that she re­ferred he woman to the An­tinar­cotics Depart­ment.
