Men jailed for pos­sess­ing 40kg drugs

DUBAI: The Dubai Crim­i­nal Court on Thurs­day ruled that two Asian sales­man, 27, and driver, 45, be sen­tenced to 10 years in jail and ined Dhs50,000 each to be fol­lowed by de­por­ta­tion af­ter be­ing con­victed of pos­sess­ing and abus­ing more than 40kg of mar­i­juana and another psy­chotropic sub­stance.

A First Lieu­tenant in the Gen­eral Anti-nar­cotics Depart­ment, Dubai Po­lice, testi­ied that a tip-off was re­ceived by the depart­ment that the irst de­fen­dant pos­sessed nar­cotics for trad­ing pur­poses.

Af­ter tak­ing the nec­es­sary le­gal mea­sures, the po­lice ofi­cer and a group from the depart­ment moved to the irst de­fen­dant’s house and ar­rested the de­fen­dant.

AR­RESTED

The irst de­fen­dant was seen wrap­ping mar­i­juana in rolls of pa­per and bags con­tain­ing mar­i­juana were found on his bed.

A suit­case was also found un­der the bed. At this time, the sec­ond de­fen­dant showed up and was ar­rested.

On in­ter­ro­ga­tion, the irst de­fen­dant de­nied that he had any­thing to do with the suit­case and that it be­longed to the sec­ond de­fen­dant, adding that he was asked to hide the suit­case against a sum of money.

When the suit­case was opened, the sec­ond de­fen­dant’s pass­port and air­line ticket were found in­side to­gether with some card­board boxes con­tain­ing a quan­tity of the same drug.
