Asian charged with setting cars on fire

DUBAI: The Dubai Criminal Court on Thursday charged a 23-year-old Asian with premeditatedly setting ire to nine cars, causing losses of Dhs800,000, in two separate cases, using the same modus operandi.

The suspect confessed to the irst crime, instigated by another person for Dhs600.

He consumed alcohol and, conniving with fugitives, poured petrol on a vehicle and set ire to it, which spread to other vehicles.

A policeman told the Dubai Public Prosecution he arrested the suspect who confessed to the crime and other similar crimes.

The policeman added he was tasked to collect evidence and later he arrested the suspect who guided him to the place of the cars he had burned.

In the second case, investigation proved the suspect committed another similar crime, by setting ire to a truck, which spread to two others, causing damage worth Dhs522,000.
