Food se­cu­rity cru­cial, says VP

Vice Pres­i­dent and Prime Min­is­ter of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His High­ness Sheikh Mo­hammed Bin Rashid Al Mak­toum said that the UAE Gov­ern­ment is keen to achieve the high­est lev­els of na­tional food se­cu­rity and en­sure its sus­tain­abil­ity as it is a key for the life qual­ity in the UAE so­ci­ety.

Sheikh Mo­hammed noted that it is also a key re­quire­ments for the com­pre­hen­sive sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment.

His High­ness Sheikh Mo­hammed Bin Rashid Al Mak­toum, Vice Pres­i­dent, Prime Min­is­ter and Ruler of Dubai, said that the UAE Gov­ern­ment is keen to achieve the high­est lev­els of na­tional food se­cu­rity and en­sure its sus­tain­abil­ity as it is a key for the life qual­ity in the UAE so­ci­ety.

Sheikh Mo­hammed noted that it is also a key re­quire­ment for the com­pre­hen­sive sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment to fur­ther boost the UAE’S rank­ing in the global food se­cu­rity in­dices, hence, turn it into a global hub for food se­cu­rity that is based on in­no­va­tion.

His High­ness’s com­ment come as he re­viewed the re­sults of Gov­ern­ment Ac­cel­er­a­tors Work­ing Groups to adopt Mod­ern Agri­cul­tural Tech­nol­ogy.

“Achiev­ing food se­cu­rity is key for the UAE Gov­ern­ment. We want the UAE to be pi­o­neer in food se­cu­rity through the de­vel­op­ment of a com­pre­hen­sive and sus­tain­able work process for food se­cu­rity that use fu­ture tech­nol­ogy in in­d­ing so­lu­tions for the chal­lenges re­lated to se­cur­ing food sources. We are aware that achiev­ing food se­cu­rity to our so­ci­ety is a key pil­lar for our com­pre­hen­sive sus­tain­able jour­ney,” His High­ness said.

He added, “We want a bet­ter fu­ture for the next gen­er­a­tions, where ev­ery mem­ber of the so­ci­ety will re­ceive a se­cured healthy food. We want to de­velop the tools and so­lu­tions to over­come the chal­lenges re­lated to food se­cu­rity, and cre­ate so­lu­tion and models and process to im­prove agri­cul­ture sec­tor in the coun­try, and pro­vide trusted sus­tained re­sources.”

Sheikh Mo­hammed was briefed on the 10 strate­gic ini­tia­tives that were de­vel­oped by Gov­ern­ment Ac­cel­er­a­tors team to adopt Mod­ern Agri­cul­tural Tech­nol­ogy, and aims to de­velop cre­ative so­lu­tions to in­crease the efi­ciency and com­pet­i­tive­ness of lo­cally pro­duced food prod­ucts, through pro­vid­ing sup­ports and at­tract­ing in­vest­ments to set up sus­tain­able agri­cul­ture projects that en­sure food se­cu­rity for the UAE, and sup­port eco­nomic growth.

LEG­IS­LA­TIONS LAB

Sheikh Mo­hammed said that the UAE has be­come a hub for in­no­va­tion and de­vel­op­ment, and it is on the right track to build a strong knowl­edge based econ­omy. His High­ness also stressed on the im­por­tance of keep­ing pace with the fu­ture with its var­i­ous trends, which be­come a pri­or­ity to de­velop the gov­ern­ment work and achieve di­ver­si­ica­tion of the na­tional econ­omy.

His High­ness’ re­mark came as he vis­ited Leg­is­la­tions Lab, in pres­ence of Sheikh Ham­dan Bin Mo­hammed, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chair­man of Dubai Ex­ec­u­tive Coun­cil, Sheikh Mak­toum Bin Mo­hammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Man­soor bin Mo­hammed. Mo­ham­mad Bin Ab­dul­lah Al Ger­gawi, Min­is­ter of Cab­i­net Af­fairs and the Fu­ture, and Hus­sain Bin Ibrahim Al Ham­madi, Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion, were also present.

Dur­ing the visit, His High­ness at­tended the launch of irst li­cence to pre­pare leg­is­la­tion re­lated to dis­tance learn­ing. “Our leg­is­la­tions are rigid and proac­tive. We serve key sec­tors, and we keep pace with key fu­ture trends,” Sheikh Mo­hammed said. “The UAE pi­o­neers the world in term of fu­tur­is­tic leg­is­la­tions. Given its achieve­ments and all com­po­nents it pos­sess, the UAE is able to host all global in­no­va­tion and cre­ativ­ity.”

“The Leg­is­la­tions Lab en­sures our vi­sion in the race to­wards the fu­ture We won’t work to de­velop fu­tur­is­tic leg­is­la­tions in the UAE only, but we will ex­port it to the world to beneit from it,” His High­ness added.

The lab will cre­ate a re­li­able and trans­par­ent leg­isla­tive en­vi­ron­ment, in­tro­duce new leg­is­la­tion or de­velop ex­ist­ing leg­is­la­tion, reg­u­late the work of ad­vanced tech­nol­ogy prod­ucts and ap­pli­ca­tions and en­cour­age in­vest­ment in fu­ture sec­tors by pro­vid­ing a se­cure leg­isla­tive en­vi­ron­ment.

The leg­is­la­tion lab will work closely with law­mak­ers from fed­eral and lo­cal gov­ern­ment au­thor­i­ties as well as the pri­vate sec­tor and busi­ness lead­ers to de­velop leg­is­la­tions gov­ern­ing vi­tal fu­ture sec­tors im­pact­ing hu­man­ity and sup­port the UAE’S role as a global in­cu­ba­tor of in­no­va­tion and cre­ative projects.
