A 33-YEAR-OLD tyre technician has been fined $300 for having drugs.
Damien Ricardo Wharton, of No. 34 Husbands Terrace, St James, admitted having marijuana on October 26.
The District “A” Magistrates’ Court heard police were making random traffic stops in The City and Wharton was stopped along Baxters Road.
A body search revealed nothing, but in his vehicle was a small pencil case under the driver’s seat containing a wrapper with vegetable matter. He told officers: “I sorry. I forgot about that in there. I wasn’t sure it had in any.”
Queen’s Counsel Michael Lashley submitted that his client had not wasted the court’s time, and they were hoping a conviction would not be recorded against his name as he was looking to go to Canada to be with his two children.
However, Magistrate Douglas Frederick fined Wharton $300 in a week or three months in jail.
GAYLAN MARSHALL was remanded to the Psychiatric Hospital for assessment.
