I am Semekor Augusta Georgette Kporvi, a single mother of two, a Development Communicator, Founder of SemCARE AFRICA FOUNDATION, and a petty trader. Growing up without parental supervision, as a teenage girl pregnant and abandoned by her dad, life wasn't easy. Despite these challenges, I persevered through the darkest times, driven by sheer survival instincts.
They say determination leads to success, but in my case, it was recommendations. I seized any opportunity, even if it wasn't in my immediate interest. Through a stroke of luck, I received media training and interned at a local radio station, Lorlornyo FM, later moving to Ho, Kekeli Radio, where I started afresh. Life began to improve gradually.
Determined to advance my education beyond high school and media training, I enrolled as a mature student at African University College of Communications in Accra, opting for weekend sessions. Despite the demanding schedule of working Monday to Friday and attending school from Friday evening to Sunday, while also juggling motherhood and household chores, I persisted.
Drawing from my experiences, I began helping others in my community. I provided skills training and equipment to women interested in starting their own businesses. Eventually, I formalized these efforts by registering SEMCARE AFRICA FOUNDATION as an NGO in accordance with Ghanaian laws.
Financial constraints challenged my ability to run the NGO smoothly, so I sought partnerships to execute projects effectively. I believe in the power of dreams and encourage others to write them down, knowing they are achievable with perseverance.
Life may present challenges, but by staying resilient and using social media positively, we can turn dreams into reality. My hope is to secure grants and sponsors to expand our outreach to more women in the community and beyond. Through collective efforts, we can make the world a better place, one small step at a time.
