Government House glitters

UK Barbados Nation - - NEWS -

GOVERNMENT HOUSE is lit up like never before, thanks to the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS).

Governor General Dame Sandra Mason hosted principal Carlton Reid and students from her alma mater, St Catherine Primary.

She was joined by David Zamar Mason and Tyler Arthur, who helped decorate the Christmas trees.

This event was held for the first time at Government House, and RCS president Cheryl Belle said she hoped it could be held annually. It continues the traditional Christmas tree lighting staged by the Society, which is also responsible for displays in Independence Square, Jubilee Gardens and at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

Among those present last Saturday were immediate past president of the society, Dame Maizie Barker-welch; Senator Alphea Wiggins; trustees Major Louis Belle and Miles Weekes; Canada’s

Judith Elson, regional coordinator for the Americas; Andrew Hutchinson; and Kaye Williams.

The trees were decorated by Ann Rudder and St Catherine old scholars.
