Accepting the people‘s verdict

Bhutan Times - - Editorial -

T he people have given their verdict in the polls results. The two parties will be going for general round about a month's time from now. It has been a tough fight between the four political parties.

The result shows that people have voted for a change as we have seen from the pattern of the votes garnered by each party. The ruling party had accepted the people's verdict and had graciously exited the race. The president of the party had congratulated the two parties who qualified for the general elections.

Some observers who are closely following the election said that incumbency factors for the ruling party with regard to their inability to handle unemployment issues, sustainability issue of central schools and doing away with the preliminary exam hit them hard.

The other observation from the primary round results indicate that even some of the ministers of the ruling party failed to garner enough votes in their own constituency as compared to other parties. It clearly indicates that our ministers had done too little for the people in their own constituencies, forgetting about serving the nation.

As Bhutanese democracy turns a decade old, the voters are educated and well informed about the vision and the mission of the parties participating in the general election.

The people have taken the pain to cast the vote despite many hardships to choose the right leader who can serve them with all their heart and soul.

The two wining parties of Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa and Druk Phuesuem Tshogpa will again go for the general elections next month. Having had to go through the same process again we might see poor voter turnout in the common forums around the Kingdom as the voters know that with ever party comes to power makes little difference for them. With the harvest season around the corner the participation will be lessen as they cannot afford to lose their yearly harvest to easily.

These two parties will try all their best to woo as many voters as possible and with our voter's through their wisdom and knowledge will always press the right button. There will definitely be a division in our society between the two party supporters and at the end the mass will take the right decision.

As per move ahead for the general election in a month's time or so, people with their full trust and confidence will vote for the right party. Whichever party comes to power serve our people with dignity and honour as they are the ones who needed your services at the most.

Otherwise you may meet the same fate after five years from now.
