6th Bhutan En­ter­prise award

The open­ing of the 2nd Cot­tage and Small In­dus­tries ( CSIs) fair and the award func­tion for the 6th Bhutan En­ter­prise Award ( BEA) was held on last Fri­day at the Changlim­ithang park­ing ground.

The CSI fair aims to build a plat­form to mar­ket au­then­tic and unique hand­made lo­cal prod­ucts of the en­trepreneurs from all 20 Dzongkhags with no in­volve­ment of mid­dle­men pri­mar­ily to en­cour­age and in­cul­cate the cul­ture of en­trepreneur­ship, en­cour­age in­ter- busi­ness net­work, ex­change busi­ness re­lated in­for­ma­tion, strengthen co­op­er­a­tion and strike com­mon de­vel­op­ment ac­tiv­i­ties for Cot­tage and Small In­dus­tries.

For this year, around 60+ en­trepreneurs are par­tic­i­pat­ing from all 20 Dzongkhag by pro­duc­ing unique and lo­cal hand­crafted prod­ucts for the three- day fair and will con­clude to­day. As an ef­fort to­wards help­ing Bhutanese en­trepreneurs, stalls were pro­vided for free of cost.

Sim­i­larly, the an­nual BEA was in­sti­tuted in the year 2013, mainly to re­ward and rec­og­nize the con­tri­bu­tion of the cot­tage and smallscale in­dus­tries to the so­cio- eco­nomic de­vel­op­ment of the na­tion and to cre­ate aware­ness and self in­ter­est in the self­em­ploy­ment.

The win­ners for the BEA were se­lected through rig­or­ous three­stage se­lec­tion pro­cesses and us­ing var­i­ous pa­ram­e­ters each for short- list­ing, field as­sess­ment and in the fi­nal se­lec­tion.

The Bhutan En­ter­prise Award 2018 win­ners un­der each cat­e­gory were awarded the cer­tifi­cate of ap­pre­ci­a­tion and cash prizes of Nu. 1, 50,000 each.

For the cat­e­gory of small- scale en­tre­pre­neur of the year was bagged by M/ s Gyelt­shen Fur­ni­ture House based in Geleg­phu.

Whereas for the cot­tage- scale en­tre­pre­neur of the year was bagged by M/ s Bhutan Al­ter­na­tives based in Thim­phu , which op­er­ates e- waste re­cy­cling unit.

Ru­ral en­tre­pre­neur of the year was bagged by M/ s Karma In­cense based in Sam­drupjongkhar and for women en­tre­pre­neur of the year was bagged by M/ s Yeshi Dema hol­low block man­u­fac­tur­ing based in Bumthang.

The Min­is­ter for Eco­nomic Af­fairs, Ly­onpo Lok­nath Sharma graced the event as the Chief Guest.
