BoB opens 1,500 mi­nor ac­counts on the young saver event

The Bank of Bhutan (BoB) or­ga­nized the one-day Young savers event last Satur­day at the Cen­te­nary Park in Thim­phu and all over its branch of­fices across the King­dom in the bank's 44 branch of­fices.

The press re­lease from the BoB states that, a to­tal of about 1,500 mi­nor ac­counts were opened on the day and also ex­ist­ing mi­nor ac­counts were con­verted to young saver ac­count. In Thim­phu at the Cen­te­nary Park, the bank also en­ter­tained its clients and the young savers with free games and lucky draw lottery.

The lucky draw lottery was held all over its 44 branch of­fices among those who opened new ac­counts as well as those who con­verted ex­ist­ing mi­nor ac­counts to young savers ac­counts. The prizes were given with Nu.1000 for first, Nu.700 for sec­ond and Nu.500 for third which was di­rectly de­posited to the young savers ac­count by the bank states the re­lease.

To open a Young Savers ac­count that is an ac­count for a mi­nor be­low 18 years of age par­ents or guardians re­quired the doc­u­ments that in­cludes two pass­port size pho­to­graphs of the mi­nor, two pass­port size pho­to­graphs of the guardian or par­ent, a copy of health card or ci­ti­zen­ship iden­tity card (CID) copy of the mi­nor and CID copy of the guardian or par­ent. The ini­tial de­posit of min­i­mum Nu.200 is re­quired.

Clients could also regis­ter for the Young savers ac­count and pro­duce the doc­u­ments later at the bank. The cus­tomer in­for­ma­tion form and ac- count open­ing form were also made avail­able in through the bank's web­site which the client can fill up and bring at the event.

BoB's PR and Me­dia Head, Pas­sang Norbu said co­in­cid­ing with the chil­dren's day, open­ing the Young Savers bank ac­count was one of the best gifts par­ents could give their kids and em­power them with the right knowl­edge and tools to learn about sav­ings and sound fi­nances.

“Sav­ing for child's fu­ture is one of the most im­por­tant fi­nan­cial goals for a par­ent. Ev­ery time the child gets cash, whether its pocket money or birth­day money, he or she can al­lo­cate a per­cent­age to their Young Saver's ac­count,” added Pas­sang Norbu.

BoB's Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer, Pema N. Nadik, of­fi­cially launched this an­nual bank's event.
