BoB opens 1,500 minor accounts on the young saver event
The Bank of Bhutan (BoB) organized the one-day Young savers event last Saturday at the Centenary Park in Thimphu and all over its branch offices across the Kingdom in the bank's 44 branch offices.
The press release from the BoB states that, a total of about 1,500 minor accounts were opened on the day and also existing minor accounts were converted to young saver account. In Thimphu at the Centenary Park, the bank also entertained its clients and the young savers with free games and lucky draw lottery.
The lucky draw lottery was held all over its 44 branch offices among those who opened new accounts as well as those who converted existing minor accounts to young savers accounts. The prizes were given with Nu.1000 for first, Nu.700 for second and Nu.500 for third which was directly deposited to the young savers account by the bank states the release.
To open a Young Savers account that is an account for a minor below 18 years of age parents or guardians required the documents that includes two passport size photographs of the minor, two passport size photographs of the guardian or parent, a copy of health card or citizenship identity card (CID) copy of the minor and CID copy of the guardian or parent. The initial deposit of minimum Nu.200 is required.
Clients could also register for the Young savers account and produce the documents later at the bank. The customer information form and ac- count opening form were also made available in through the bank's website www.bob.bt which the client can fill up and bring at the event.
BoB's PR and Media Head, Passang Norbu said coinciding with the children's day, opening the Young Savers bank account was one of the best gifts parents could give their kids and empower them with the right knowledge and tools to learn about savings and sound finances.
“Saving for child's future is one of the most important financial goals for a parent. Every time the child gets cash, whether its pocket money or birthday money, he or she can allocate a percentage to their Young Saver's account,” added Passang Norbu.
BoB's Chief Executive Officer, Pema N. Nadik, officially launched this annual bank's event.
