The country saw that enrolment for the girl's higher than that of boys in the school especially at the primary level during the year.

According to the Annual Education Statistics, ( AES) 2018 which was compiled by the Ministry of Education, the country witnessed impressive achievements in terms of girls' participation rates with net enrolment rate ( NER) of 93.4 percent for girls as compared to 92.4 percent for boys at primary level.

The survival rate for girls at the primary level stands at 90.6 percent exceeding that of boys at 78.9 percent. In terms of percentage, girls' make up 50.7 percent of the total school enrolment in the school education system for class pre- primary to twelfth standard.

The enrolment rates for girls made to private schools from pre- primary till class 12 was 51.2 percent. The enrolment for pre- primary till sixth standard was 49.8 percent followed by 47.2 percent in seventh to eight standard. 43 percent of girl enrolment for ninth to tenth standard and 52.6 percent for eleventh and twelfth standard.

The report also shows that in terms of percentage, girls' make up 49.2 percent of the total school enrolment in the school education system for pre- primary till sixth standard, 52.2 percent for seventh to eighth standard, 53.6 percent for ninth to tenth standard and 51.1 percent for class eleventh to twelfth standard.

Unlike in the past years, this year's enrol- ment figure shows equal representation of girls at the higher secondary level including private schools to 51.2 percent. This could be largely due to the improvement in girls' enrolment at the lower levels of education in the previous years, stated the report.

The higher secondary Gross Enrolment Ration ( GER) for girls in 2018 stands at 71.8 percent, which is higher than that of boys at 68 percent. Similarly, the NER for girls at 34.7 percent at the higher secondary level is also higher than the NER for boys at 29.3 percent.

In 2018, the relative percentage of girls' enrolment in eleventh standard in private higher secondary schools is 55 percent. The girls' enrolment had always been on the higher side as compared to the boys in eleventh standard in private schools since 2008. However in 2018, the enrolment of boys in eleventh standard in public schools has been higher than girls.

Last year, the relative percentage of girls' enrolment in eleventh standard in private higher secondary school was 54 percent and 49 percent for public higher secondary school.
