Eco­nomic Min­is­ter ques­tioned on plot al­lo­ca­tion of Motanga In­dus­trial Es­tate.

De­wathang Gom­dar MP, Ugyen Dorji asked Eco­nomic Min­is­ter, Lok­nath Sharma on the plot al­lo­ca­tion of the Motanga In­dus­trial Es­tate dur­ing Na­tional Assem­bly on Jan­uary 11.

MP, Ugyen Dorji said that the in­dus­tries are most im­por­tant for the eco­nomic and re­gional devel­op­ment and, for em­ploy­ment op­por­tu­ni­ties.

He fur­ther added that for the bal­ance re­gional devel­op­ment, gov­ern­ment had recog­nised four in­dus­trial es­tates that are in Jig­melling in Sarpang, Dham­dum in Samtse, Motanga in Sam­drup Jhongkhar and Bondeyma in Mon­gar.

Ugyen Dorji queries to clar­ify on the plot al­lo­ca­tion in the Motanga In­dus­trial Es­tate since Min­istry of Eco­nomic Af­fairs no longer al­lots plots although at present, there are only two in­dus­tries.

Re­spond­ing to this, Min­is­ter of Eco­nomic Af­fairs, Lok­nath Sharma said that Motanga in­dus­trial area with 156 acres take into clus­ter ap­proach based on the ar­eas di­vided as chem­i­cal and min­eral based, for­est and wood based, and food and agro based.

He jus­ti­fied that the plot al­lo­ca­tion for the chem­i­cal and min­eral based is oc­cu­pied and there are op­por­tu­ni­ties in the other ar­eas.

He also said that Min­istry of Eco­nomic Af­fairs has al­lot­ted 29 slots for 27 acres of chem­i­cal and min­eral based and re­ceived 14 pro­pos­als more.

With the pro­vi­sional al­lot­ment of the slots, the min­istry pro­vides six months du­ra­tion to work on with their doc­u­ments and en­vi­ron­ment clear­ance cer­tifi­cate. An ad­di­tional six months for the con­struc­tion of the fac­to­ries.

How­ever, he also added that that min­istry has only pro­vided the pro­vi­sional al­lot­ment and if the in­di­vid­ual fail to com­plete and start on the given time­frame, the min­istry will re­view and the op­por­tu­nity would be given to other in­ter­ested in­vestors.

To pro­mote pri­vate sec­tor devel­op­ment and en­hance socio-eco­nomic ac­tiv­ity in the re­gion and in or­der to pro­mote bal­anced re­gional devel­op­ment and en­hance ru­ral econ­omy, in­dus­trial es­tates were de­vel­oped and al­lot­ted to prospec­tive in­vestors.

Motanga In­dus­trial Es­tate cov­ers 156 acres with a ca­pac­ity of 20 mega man­u­fac­tur­ing units. An Es­tate needs 100 MW of elec­tric­ity when it is fully func­tional.
