Economic Minister questioned on plot allocation of Motanga Industrial Estate.
Dewathang Gomdar MP, Ugyen Dorji asked Economic Minister, Loknath Sharma on the plot allocation of the Motanga Industrial Estate during National Assembly on January 11.
MP, Ugyen Dorji said that the industries are most important for the economic and regional development and, for employment opportunities.
He further added that for the balance regional development, government had recognised four industrial estates that are in Jigmelling in Sarpang, Dhamdum in Samtse, Motanga in Samdrup Jhongkhar and Bondeyma in Mongar.
Ugyen Dorji queries to clarify on the plot allocation in the Motanga Industrial Estate since Ministry of Economic Affairs no longer allots plots although at present, there are only two industries.
Responding to this, Minister of Economic Affairs, Loknath Sharma said that Motanga industrial area with 156 acres take into cluster approach based on the areas divided as chemical and mineral based, forest and wood based, and food and agro based.
He justified that the plot allocation for the chemical and mineral based is occupied and there are opportunities in the other areas.
He also said that Ministry of Economic Affairs has allotted 29 slots for 27 acres of chemical and mineral based and received 14 proposals more.
With the provisional allotment of the slots, the ministry provides six months duration to work on with their documents and environment clearance certificate. An additional six months for the construction of the factories.
However, he also added that that ministry has only provided the provisional allotment and if the individual fail to complete and start on the given timeframe, the ministry will review and the opportunity would be given to other interested investors.
To promote private sector development and enhance socio-economic activity in the region and in order to promote balanced regional development and enhance rural economy, industrial estates were developed and allotted to prospective investors.
Motanga Industrial Estate covers 156 acres with a capacity of 20 mega manufacturing units. An Estate needs 100 MW of electricity when it is fully functional.
