Light­ning kills man

On the evening of April 26, a 43-year old lay man (Gom­chen) was killed on the spot when he was struck by light­ning near Jangchul­ing Goenpa, Gangzur Gewog in Lhuentse.

Jangchul­ing Goenpa is about 29km away from Lhuentse town.

The de­ceased along with his two friends had gone to col­lect sang (cy­press tree leaves) from Jangchul­ing Goenpa about five kilo­me­ters away from the Yoda Gonpa. When they were col­lect­ing the leaves, sud­denly there was heavy rain­fall. One of the friends of the de­ceased stayed in the ve­hi­cle while the de­ceased and the other friend were col­lect­ing sang. The friend who was in the ve­hi­cle had asked the de­ceased to move away from the site but he re­fused while the friend with him walked to­wards the road.

The de­ceased took shel­ter un­der the cy­press tree, when light­ning struck him and killed him on spot.

Foul play was ruled out and his death was de­clared as ac­ci­den­tal death af­ter the case was in­ves­ti­gated by the po­lice and the Lhuentse hos­pi­tal.

The body of the de­ceased was handed over to his wife af­ter the in­ves­ti­ga­tion was over. The de­ceased is sur­vived by his wife and two chil­dren who are both study­ing.

The de­ceased was from Khal­ing, Traashigang.
