THREE MEN SEN­TENCED FOR IL­LICIT DRUG TRAF­FICK­ING

The Pu­nakha Dis­trict Court on Mon­day sen­tenced two men, from Sam­drup Jongkhar and Pema­gat­shel, to six years im­pris­on­ment for il­licit traf­fick­ing of nar­cotic drugs and psy­chotropic sub­stance. The judg­ment states that the men had in his pos­ses­sion 90 SP+ cap­sules and other con­trolled sub­stances in their pos­ses­sion at the time of the ar­rest.

In another drug case, the court sen­tenced a 25-year old man from Ch­hukha to eight years in prison. The con­vict was ar­rested from Lobesa in March this year; he was in pos­ses­sion of over 200 SP+ cap­sules along with other con­trolled sub­stances.

In another in­ci­dent, five men, aged be­tween 22 to 60 years, was de­tained by the Thim­phu Po­lice for sub­stance abuse and il­licit traf­fick­ing of nar­cotic drugs and psy­chotropic sub­stance. The men were ar­rested on Mon­day fol­low­ing a tip-off. More than 2000 SP+ cap­sules were seized from the men who all tested pos­i­tive for SP+ and ni­tro­sun, ex­cept for the 60 year old man.
