CENTRAL MONASTIC BODY LEAVES FOR PUNAKHA
The Central Monastic Body left for their winter residence in Punakha from Tashichoedzong on Wednesday.
As is the tradition, the monk body led by Dorji Lopen spent the night at Thinleygang Lhakhang and proceeded to Puna Dewa Chenpoi Phodrang on Thursday.
The Zhung Dratshang will reportedly spend the next six months in Punakha and will return Thimphu on the first day of the fourth Bhutanese month.
Meanwhile, thousands of people received blessings from sacred relics along the way and the tradition of maintaining a summer and winter residence was first introduced by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in the 17th century.
