In commemoration of the National GNH Day, the Gross National Happiness Centre Bhutan (GNHCB) will organize a day-long celebration tomorrow at the Centenary Park in Thimphu.

The programme includes a collective offering of prayer at the sanctum of Semtokha Dzong in the morning for the happiness, wellbeing and long life of His Majesty the Fourth King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. An international cultural festival on the theme “Expressions of Happiness” will take place later in the evening.

The celebration will be part of the annual “GNH Experience” organized by GNHCB on 11 November on different themes coinciding with His Majesty Drugyal Zhipa’s Birth Anniversary.

From 10:30 am onwards, various stalls related to health and wellbeing such as meditation yoga, pranic healing, traditional medicine among others will remain open at the Centenary Park for the benefit of the public.

According to the press release issued by GNHCB, the thematic “Expressions of Happiness” programme will be attended by GNHCB’s President, Her Royal Highness Gyalsem Kezang Choden Wangchuck and various dignitaries in the country starting from 4 pm.

“This year’s theme has been designed as an international cultural festival in Bhutan where Bhutanese and world citizens present in the country demonstrate creative expressions to experience, promote and embrace the values of GNH through dance, music, poetry and other artistic performances,” states the press release.

A key element for participants, according to the press release, will be to demonstrate through the creative arts how GNH creates a space for meaningful development, promoting the arts, embracing culture and values, and how each of us as individuals, have a responsibility in shaping a sustainable future for the planet. GNHCB’s event this year is supported by B-Grimm, Bangkok, Le Meridien Thimphu, Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC) and Bhutan Printing Solutions.

Meanwhile, members of the GNH Club in Taktse College of Language and Culture Studies are also simultaneously going to mark the day by organizing a cultural festival and unveiling a magazine to celebrate happiness. The GNH club is the first of its kind created in a college under the guidance of GNHCB.

GNHCB is a non-profit civil society organization under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness Ashi Kezang Choden Wangchuck. It was registered under the Civil Society Organization Authority of Bhutan on October 18, 2012. The GNHCB was established as a tribute to take forward the vision and philosophy of Gross National Happiness (GNH) as introduced by His Majesty the Fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuck in the early 1970s.
