A 26-year-old man from Dzomi Gewog, Punakha has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for murdering his uncle by the Punakha District Court.

The court judgement also ordered the convict to pay a compensation of around Nu 178,000 to the relatives of the deceased.

While the Office of the Attorney General had actually charged the convict with voluntary manslaughter, the court ruled it a murder stating that the act was deliberate.

Meanwhile, a land dispute between the two reportedly led to the murder. The incident happened in Buli-Gepa near Khuruthang on July 26, when the convict took his uncle to the riverside and they got engaged in fistfight. The deceased then got pushed into the river. The body of the uncle has not been recovered until now.
