UNICEF’S NA­TIONAL YOUTH AM­BAS­SADOR, BHUTAN

Pop­u­lar Bhutanese singer and song­writer Sonam Wangchen, 16, was an­nounced as UNICEF Na­tional Youth Am­bas­sador in Bhutan on Novem­ber 20.

The ap­point­ment–marked on World Chil­dren’s Day– makes Sonam Wangchen UNICEF’s first ever Bhutanese na­tional am­bas­sador.

In his role as UNICEF Youth Am­bas­sador, Sonam will use his singing, pop­u­lar­ity and dig­i­tal pres­ence to en­gage with young peo­ple and em­power them to speak about the is­sues they face, be­sides speak­ing on on­line safety and vi­o­lence against chil­dren.

Sonam rose to fame af­ter his song called ‘choethom da’ in 2015 be­came a su­per hit. Since then, Sonam has per­formed in na­tional events, char­i­ta­ble con­certs and worked on orig­i­nal sound­track for movies and, writ­ten and sung nu­mer­ous hit songs.
