US$ 35MN GRANT AGREE­MENTS SIGNED

Bhutan and Asian De­vel­op­ment Bank (ADB) signed US$ 35mn grant agree­ments yes­ter­day.

Of the to­tal grant, US$ 20mn will be used for health sec­tor de­vel­op­ment pro­gram to im­prove eq­ui­table ac­cess, en­hance ef­fi­ciency and sus­tain­abil­ity of the health sys­tem. The Min­istry of Health will im­ple­ment the project over a pe­riod of five years (2018-22).

The grant of US$ 15mn will, mean­while, be used for Skills Train­ing and Ed­u­ca­tion Path­ways Upgra­da­tion Project (STEP-UP), which is en­vi­sioned to sup­port the gov­ern­ment ef­forts to­wards ex­pand­ing and up­grad­ing tech­ni­cal and vo­ca­tional sys­tem. The la­bor and ed­u­ca­tion min­istries will im­ple­ment the project in the next seven years (2018-25).
