BICMA EX­TENDS DIG­I­TAL SWITCH DEAD­LINE

Bhutan In­foComm and Me­dia Author­ity (BICMA) de­cided to ex­tend the dead­line for the switch from ana­logue TV sig­nals to dig­i­tal TV by a month on the re­quest of the in­for­ma­tion and com­mu­ni­ca­tions min­istry.

The ana­logue TV sig­nal will now be shut down on Fe­bru­ary 1 and the switch is aimed to en­cour­age tech­nol­ogy en­hance­ment, pro­vide bet­ter cus­tomer ser­vices, and en­sure ac­count­abil­ity.

Mean­while, BICMA had is­sued a direc­tive in June last year declar­ing that the ana­logue switchover for Thim­phu Thromde should com­plete by De­cem­ber 31, 2018.

The As­so­ci­a­tion of Bhutanese Ca­ble Op­er­a­tors (ABCO) had ear­lier also re­quested BICMA to ex­tend the dead­line by six months and had also gone to the min­istry with their re­quest for time ex­ten­sion.
