Description
Nancy Clancy hits the soccer field in New York Times bestselling team Jane O’Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser’s sixth Nancy Clancy chapter book.
Normally, Nancy doesn’t like dressing like everyone else. But wearing a soccer team uniform—well, that’s different!
Nancy adores being on the Green Goblins. She loves cheering for her teammates, sharing refreshments, and painting her fingernails bright green before every game. If only she wasn’t cursed with slow legs! All Nancy wants is to be mediocre—or maybe even a little better than average. Will she reach her goal?
Written with plenty of humor and sports action, this story is perfect for kids like Nancy who aren’t the stars of their teams.
- A Relatable Hero: Nancy Clancy isn’t the fastest player on the Green Goblins. In fact, her goal is just to be mediocre! A perfect story for every kid who knows that trying your best is what really matters.
- Kids Soccer Fun: From painting fingernails green to sharing post-game snacks, Nancy knows that being part of a team is about more than just scoring goals.
- Lessons in Sportsmanship: Join Nancy and her best friend Bree as they learn that cheering for your teammates is just as important as kicking the ball.
- A Fun Vocabulary Builder: With a hilarious subplot about a “Graveyard of Boring Words,” this chapter book sneakily introduces new words in a way that’s ooh la la—that’s fancy for fun!

About the author(s)
Jane O’Connor was born and raised in the fabulous metropolis of New York City. That’s where she still lives with her husband, Jim, although both their grown sons did something unfathomable (that means impossible to understand). They moved to the West Coast! Besides writing the Fancy Nancy series and other books for children, Jane spent her whole career as an editor at major publishing houses. Recently retired, she finds herself with something she never had before—free time to do whatever she pleases.
Robin Preiss Glasser has illustrated many acclaimed picture books, including the bestselling Fancy Nancy series, Lambslide, Escape Goat, and Grand Jeté and Me: A Christmas Holiday Book for Kids. She won the Children’s Choice Award for Best Illustrator of the Year for Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet. Robin actually wore tiaras and tutus when she danced with the Pennsylvania Ballet. Now she happily spends her days in jeans, drawing. Robin and her family live in Southern California.
