Description

The Turn of the Screw is an 1898 novella by American author Henry James. It first appeared in serial format in Collier's Weekly in 1898 and was subsequently published in the collection The Two Magics that same year. The novella follows a governess who, caring for two children at a remote estate, becomes convinced that the grounds are haunted. The Turn of the Screw is considered a work of both Gothic and horror fiction. It remains one of James’ most analyzed and adapted works.
