BONA holds fruitful Online AGM
Francistown Regional Football Association (FAFRA) Chairman and Botswana Football Association (BFA) Vice President hopeful Maokaneng Bontshetse is expected to face the wrath of the football mother body. The football administrator recently found himself in hot water after he irked BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti after being accused of using the Association properties for his own personal gain.
In a letter addressed to Bontshetse by the BFA president this week, Maokaneng is reported to have been using the association vehicle for his own benefit. The property in question is a white Toyota Wish registration number
B942BLI, which is said to have been roving from city to village.
The letter further states that the car was used to travel to Gaborone, Tsabong, Hukuntsi and Kang for personal gains. It is said that Maokaneng went on to make assertions on his Facebook page that he will continue to use the car for his own personal gain.
When quizzed about the dispute at hand the BFA head honcho said they are still waiting for the wrongdoer to reply to the letter within the stipulated 24 hours and failure to do so, the association will see the next step to take. “The only thing I can say is that we are awaiting his response to the letter we wrote.”
Reached for comment, Bontshetse said he will respond to the BFA letter in writing. However, the football administrator was yet ready to provide a response at press time.
Bontshetse is campaigning for the BFA 1st Vice President position under Team Sebego. He burst into football scenes as the Zebras Supporters Committee Chairman and emerged as one of the backroom people that vigorously campaigned for Philip Makgalemele to oust David Fani as the President of the BFA some years ago.
The Botswana Netball Association (BONA) held a successful online Annual General Meeting (AGM) this past weekend. The embattled association looked to address many issues that have been disturbing their headway.
BONA is the very first local association to host an online Annual General Meeting following the decision by the Covid- 19 Task team that meetings of more than 50 people are currently suspended as the country continues to control the spike in Covid-19 cases.
The association was stuck between a rock and a hard place as they could not host their AGM while their problems continue to drag. “We are the first Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) affiliate to host the Online AGM, which is a boost since we are doing something positive during these trying times,” BONA President Malebo Raditladi said in an interview.
According to Raditladi the AGM was a fruitful one although members were not too sure about the online platform, “members were able to connect and express their opinions; this was new to us but we did very well, change comes with many things and we are glad to be adapting.”
Consequently, the AGM adopted many other things including the changes in the constitution, the code of conduct, rules and regulations and election guidelines were altered during the online meeting, one motion was rejected.
“We have introduced the first governance tool, financial manual and Admin manual, all these are signs that we are heading in the right direction and we will get the association back to where it was before.”
Raditladi says they had invited the
Registrar of Societies (ROS) to assist and explain to their affiliates the importance and benefits of qualifying as many of them do not comply, however the ROS could not attend the online meeting.
Raditladi has a mammoth task of turning around the fortunes of the federation, which has been troubled by inactivity and poor administration of late. Raditladi took over the baton from Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego in 2017. It has, however, been a tough journey for the new committee as they have to deal with new troubles faced by the association.
