Inflation increases marginally
The annual inflation rate in August 2020 was 1.0 percent, registering an increase of 0.1 of a percentage point on the July rate of 0.9 percent. According to Statistics Botswana, the major contributors to the August annual inflation rate were Transport (-1.6 percent), Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas & Other Fuels (1.1 percent) and Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages (0.6 of a percent).
The inflation rates for regions between July and August 2020 indicated that the Cities & Towns’ rate moved from 0.9 percent to 1.0 percent, registering an increase of 0.1 of a percentage point.
The Rural Villages’ rate went up by 0.1 of a percentage point, from 0.6 percent in July to 0.7 percent in August. The Urban Villages’ inflation rate remained unchanged at 1.1 percent.
