UB’s new strategy
to drive innovation and entrepreneurship and enable them to approach potential investors with working prototypes.
Prof. Norris told Botswana Guardian that the new strategy envisages the setting up of a Consultancy Bureau.
He lamented that government spends billions of Pula on consultancies conducted by external people and sometimes even experts from foreign universities.
“I want the University to be business-like, we must generate money, I want us for the next two to three years to at least generate 30 percent (and within the next ten years to generate 60 percent from our own revenue using our own enterprises” so that UB weans itself from financial dependence on government.
The University will also put up a Food Testing Centre in its Biological Sciences Department.
Norris said they have all the equipment to provide this service. It is also setting up a Centre of Indigenous Medicine.
According to Prof. Norris, some of the pillars of the new Strategy are, ‘Engagement’ ‘Financial prudence’ and ‘Inclusivity’ through which UB will enhance the skills of SMMEs and empower communities.
