Francistow­n hosts Under-12 tennis tournament

While other sports codes have been crippled by the Covid -19 pandemic with little to no activity, the Botswana Tennis Associatio­n (BTA) has been involved in constant activity across the country, hosting tournament­s and coaching courses.

Donga Tennis Club will be hosting the Under 12 and Under 10 tennis tournament in Francistow­n this weekend. The club will

also host a senior Open tournament which will be played during the Independen­ce Holidays.

In an interview BTA President, Oaitse Thipe emphasized the importance of hosting this tournament at a time when many other codes are crippled by the Covid-19 pandemic. “It’s important for us to host this tournament as we want to develop young talent and the developmen­t of players requires us to give players enough competitio­n,” he told BG Sport.

He said the Associatio­n is engrossed to produce young talent as it is part of their strategy. “It’s part of our strategy and we have a long term athlete developmen­t plan, so this tournament is a
