Tlou Energy set to short lists contractors

- BG reporter

Positive progress is on the radar for Tlou Energy’s Lesedi power project, as the company announces engagement of consultant to craft the project’s transmission line to the national grid.

Tlou Energy Managing Director, Anthony Gilby this week said the company has engaged Mott MacDonald engineering consultants to work on the detailed engineering and design of the proposed transmission line.“Mott MacDonald is now working on the implementation stage of the proposed 66kV transmission line. This includes preparation of pre‐qualification (PQ) documents with the objective of Tlou selecting a short‐list of pre‐qualified bidders who will be invited to bid for the construction of the transmission line and supporting infrastructure,” said Gilby.

Currently, documents that have been drafted include pre‐qualification of bidders for the design and build contract for the substation(s) works and pre‐qualification of bidders for the design and build contract for 66kV overhead transmission line works. Gilby said the implementation

stage is expected to be completed later this year. “Thereafter, the company will request tenders for construction of the transmission line and substation works from successful pre‐qualified bidders.”

This year, Tlou Energy has raised P2 million pula through a placement with existing and new investors to support its power generation project development targeting the local market and the region.

The project developers plan to combine methane gas with solar power to provide a cleaner base load power source for Botswana and Southern Africa, to alleviate some of the chronic power shortage in the region. The development is further expected to address the country’s significant energy shortage, as the economy relies on imported power and diesel generation to fulfill its power requirements.

Meanwhile, Tlou’s Lesedi power project provides investors with access to a compelling opportunity to displace expensive, carbon intensive diesel and imported coal-fired electricity with a cleaner and more environmentally friendly alternative.
