BotswanaVolleyball Federation( BVF) president, Daniel Molaodi has been elected into Federation of International Volleyball ( FIVB) Board of Administrators as one of Africa’s three representatives. Molaodi was elected together with fellow Africans from Ivory Coast and Nigeria at the Confederation of Africa Volleyball elective congress over the weekend and will serve for the next four years in the committee.
Molaodi has a good proven track record in administration, having started his journey at his club Kalavango before heading to BVF where he served as secretary general and subsequently president. During his reign as president, his array of portfolios increased as he ended up becoming vice president of Africa Zone VI region and BNSC board member at local level. According to Molaodi the latest election to the global volleyball governing body is a progression of what he long started.
“It is an important step in my role as a volleyball administrator. So it is a progression that has been growing over the years. It is every administrator’s dream and goal to penetrate the
zonal, continental and international sports bodies,” said the BVF president.
The overall role of FIVB is to oversee matters of both indoor and beach volleyball in all continents, to manage and assist national federations, oversee the work of executive officers,
monitor programmes of development, technical and managerial. “As Africa’s representative, I will be tasked with ensuring that Africa gets its due share of resources that are allocated to continental bodies and national federations. Also to provide FIVB with a
clear picture of volleyball issues in the continent and those challenges needing attention,” explained Molaodi.
All eyes are on Molaodi from Botswana and the rest of Zone VI region. “The benefit of Botswana will be through allocations to CAVB, Zone VI and national federations. We will have first- hand information of the strategic direction of both CAVB and FIVB and the areas we can take advantage of and leverage our own development,” he said.
Molaodi recently announced his impending retirement from the local BVF presidential position. Could this have been to pave way for his international ambitions? “Not really, I took the decision because I believe I have served long enough and have to give a chance to others. It was not to take up any higher positions. It’s only coincidental,” said Molaodi.
