- Kabelo Gadise

WhenVTM Football Club acquired the status of Masitaoka in the Kweneng Regional Football League, founder of the Club, Vincent Mafuta had in mind the plans and opportunities he will afford the club and build it into a successful and dominant force, both in the division and as a business entity. Speaking to BG Sport in an interview this week, Mafuta said he admired the language of transformation that has been preached in the past across the football fraternity.

He says he wants to take up his budding team which he has aligned with his VTM Security company to new heights. “Football can be a vehicle to grow my business as well can help me grow this team; we cannot separate the two” Mafuta said during the opening of the new club office in Tlokweng, this week. Through his business influence, Mafuta says he is willing to lure various sponsors, transfer or sell players, sell merchandise, and many other activities under the brand name of the football club to ensure financial health of his football team.

“One of the key areas we want to

work on is the corporate governance of the team; we want to up skill our management and ensure the team is run accordingly because it is registered as a company. We will adhere to all the pillars of corporate governance because we want to measure our growth.” Further, he says they will remain closer to the Botswana Football Association ( BFA) so that they don’t miss out on opportunities. “Our intention is to remain level headed with the programmes and courses offered by the association.” He said the team is made of youngsters who are also offered job opportunities in the security company. “We offer them winning bonuses once in a while to keep them motivated and the boys are coached by former Township Rollers player, Otlantshekela Mooketsi, who is making a mark as a young coach.”

They have a short- term plan that will guide their progress from the lower divisions to the elite league. “We have a five- year plan and we intendto spend two years in the regional league and promote to First Division.

We should spend five years at First division before climbing to the elite league,” he said. Mafuta says this dream needs continuity, visibility and recognition to grow in leaps and bounds hence he has deployed the trusted forces to help propel the team forward. “In addition to that, we need proper branding and marketing that will keep us relevant across the local football fraternity.”
