Dam- to- dam tour kicks off
The first ever dam- to- dam tour event that kicks off later this month is expected to inject a measurable dose of fun, hive and activity, into the gloomy Covid19 ‘ new normal’ entertainment calendar.
The event was previously pencilled to be held last year but due to the lockdowns and strict social distancing restrictions on events, the organisers postponed it to the last weekend of January 2021.
And while the country is not out of the woods yet, the organisers have promised a social distancing compliant yet fun way of entertaining revellers who are hungry to let their hair down. This is despite the stark manner that the pandemic has drastically changed the way people relax, unwind and socialise. The event will be held under the theme: ‘ Unlocking dam tourism potential towards job creation.’ The organisers told this publication that they hope the event will help revive the dwindling star of the SPEDU region.
Spokesperson Otsile Mbise said they aim to help boost the dam use for entertainment in Botswana, and promote domestic tourism. He expressed confidence that the event, which he said is one of its kind, would be at the forefront of economic diversification through safe entertainment and fun. “We want to spearhead unlocking our dams for not only drinking, but also for entertainment. We will be taking a notable journey that will start at Thune dam via Dikgathong dam, and end at the magnificent Letsibogo Sailing dam,” he said.
Mbise explained that they chose Letsibogo dam as the finishing point because it has facilities that it can be used for camping activities at the Sailing club; these include an ablution, a mini- pool and a gazebo. Some of the activities lined up are boat cruising, hiking, game fishing, car modelling among others. The tour will wrap up with a red- carpet dinner at a dam beach. Mbise said that in line with current Covid- 19 protocols, they will have a limited number of guests on board, and will also ensure that all safety regulations are followed as well as engaging SHE officers and a security company. He also added that keeping the environment clean was also of key importance to them, and they had prioritised a plan to ensure pollution is kept at a bare minimal.
The organisers of the jamboree, who operate as Sayso Holdings, have previously hosted Letsibogo Dam Fest 2016, Hotel Selebi Annual Valentine night, Miss Selebi Phikwe, Toyota 1000 Desert race camping retreat and the Bye and Meet Music Fest.
