BPP Youth League fires leader

- Edward Bule BG Correspondent

Botswana Peoples’ Party Youth League ( BPP YL) has relieved its leader, Thatayaone Ntwaetsile from the position of president. The ejection of Ntwaetsile comes two weeks after the expulsion from the party of former vice president of the party, Joseph Mogatle and now former secretary general of the party, Venter Galetshabiwe.

Speaking in an interview, the secretary general of the BPP YL, Gosego Phuthego said that the letter has been delivered to Ntwaetsile.

“We had a meeting as BPP YL and resolved to remove him from office,” Phuthego said.

Phuthego said that Ntwaetsile had become unsuitable for the job since he no longer had regard for the rule of law.

“He incited people to disobey the party president. He neither respected the party president nor the party members in general.

“He disregarded the party constitution willynilly. Ntwaetsile has also missed three meetings without an apology and this is an offence against

the party constitution,” Phuthego said.

The BPP YL leader is also accused of wilful disclosure of confidential information and dereliction of duty. However, Ntwaetsile dismissed the message he received as a joke.

“The nation is bored so Phuthego and his committee needed to break the boredom by providing something with which to amuse the people. This is both laughable and embarrassing.

“Needless to say, the BPP YL leadership has got no powers to take that sort of action against me. Their powers are limited to escalating a matter such as this one to the party Central Committee ( CC) to act.

“This is a matter that is way beyond them. That is what the party constitution says,” Ntwaetsile said.

His position is that Phuthego is being used by some in the leadership of the party. In a not so veiled attempt to call Phuthego an errand boy of the party leader Molapisi, Ntwaetsile said:

“He is being used. He has been sent by somebody who does not recognise the party constitution. He is busy purging what he considers his opponents.

“I had intended to resign from the leadership of the BPPYL. I have since decided to stay and challenge this decision first”.
