The biggest matches at the Botswana Boxing Association ( BoBA) will not be contested in the ring this year but in the boardroom instead. The local amateur boxing association is expected to go to the polls this June as affiliates will be looking to elect candidates of their choice into office. The stakes have never been higher and gloves will be off, setting a tone for bare knuckle grudge matches among nominees.
The course of the BoBA executive committee was altered earlier this year after incumbent president, Dr Thato Patlakwe announced that he will not be contesting after two terms at the helm. Even though an election committee has not been set up just as yet, former national team boxer, coach and current BoBA Vice President, Gilbert Khunwane has declared his interest to contest for the presidency at the next elective Annual General Meeting. Naturally, this puts Khunwane into pole position to clinch the presidency. “I hereby officially announce my candidacy for the position of BoBA president.
