Boss Brows pioneers micro blading in local cosmetics

Micro blading is a long stay make up

- PHEMELO RAMASU BG REPORTER

Local company, Boss Brows by Vicky is certainly setting trends when it comes to the cosmetics industry with its genius concept of Micro blading. It offers women & men who wish to elevate their beauty care routine to a whole new level.

In short, Micro Blading is a permanent tattooing technique for enhancing the appearance of eyebrows. The procedure involves a pigment being deposited into the skin using fine linen strokes that look like hair to create the appearance of eye brow hair.

In simple terms, it is kind of a permanent make- up. While the procedure is not for everyone, those who are keen to breathe a new life into their brows can stay up to a year without worrying about the condition of their brows. Already, there is demand for the procedure from all those who are keen to embrace this latest trend in the local shores. Browsing through the company’s social media pages, there is a positive buzz from those who have been looking for a cosmetic procedure of this sort. While the price might appear to be a bit steep, depending on how one looks at it, the end result will make one forget all about the pricing. Each session costs about P1500, and the procedure is done over 1hr 30 minutes to 2 hrs. A touch up can be done after 4- 6 weeks for P800.

And for this price, a client is guaranteed precise and defined eye brows, natural looking, and most importantly water and sweat proof for the next three years.

According to Onkutlule Vicky Tirelo, most people in Botswana are familiar with tattoos. Instead of using a tattoo machine, a little handheld tool is used to manually draw hair strokes. A sort of a labour intensive and delicate procedure, Tirelo designs the brows, draws the hair stroke as well as an aftercare. A traditional tattoo is permanent but the micro blading colouring can last well over two years. Each stroke is precise and it mimics an actual eyebrows. Most importantly, the pigment that is used is created to match a client’s natural hair colour in order to give the brows that unique natural appearance.

Tirelo is a certified Permanent Make- up artist specializing in micro blading. Taking Style through the procedure, she explains that it is worth it to invest time on the procedure. She explains that the procedure is done over four - six weeks apart.

She highlights that she technically shapes and styles the brows for the client’s approval. She shapes and cleans the area, and applies the anaesthetic which takes about 40 minutes.

“During that time we use a small tool to begin measuring the area, taking into account the shape of the face. It is crucial to take into account the facial shape or facial morphology, as people have different shapes,” she says.

She also says that they take into account the symmetry, and the facial features.

And then the needling process starts; it sees her gently implanting the pigment. In the event that there is some discomfort during the process, another layer of numbing cream is added.

“And thereafter, we add another layer of pigment which stays up to a few minutes, and the area is clean, and voila the beautiful brows are complete,” she says.

She explains that a client returns for a touch up after 4- 6 weeks.

It is not ideal for people with skin conditions, rashes, and shingles or taking blood thinning medication such as Aspirin, pregnant or breastfeeding, and even epileptic people. “It is not for everyone,” she says. She further says that it does not ruin natural hair and that hair still grows back after the procedure. On average, depending on skin type, it can last up to one to three years.

Quizzed on the disadvantages that might come with this type of procedure, she explains that the procedure is performed under anaesthetic to make clients not feel the pain as a blade is used.

The skin is cut in order to deposit the pigment, which is a bit scary for some people. Another hiccup that could come with the procedure could be using unsterilized equipment that can lead to many skin issues.

The procedure is still new in the country and it makes her stand out in the cosmetics industry, something that will work in her favour. “Batswana love it, and I have received bookings and requests. They have seen my craft, and they are really excited about doing it.”

Her target market is anyone who loves to look good, such as young adults. For now, she is focused on micro blading and will return to school one day to do another qualification in Ombre Brows, another cosmetics procedure.
