Alfredo Mos enters continental song contest

- IRENE SHONE BG Correspondent

The legendary Alfred Mosimanegape, better known as Alfredo Mos in the music circles, is one of the local contestants for Africa Music Challenge and he anticipates winning the competition with his trusted composition skills.

This competition started running from February 15th with an aim to promote African talent, while rewarding it at the same time. It is spearheaded by Africa Sports Venture’s Group in collaboration with Chitleb production company in Canada. “This competition expects artistes from across the continent to produce an Africa theme song, that praises Africa. The ideology impressed me, and I saw a bigger picture of Botswana winning the competition, hence I decided to contest and compete with more than 50 countries from Africa,” said Mosimanegape. He deems Africa as a very rich continent which deserves contribution from African artistes to share their thoughts through music. For him, being given an opportunity to contest means a lot as he believes that it is rare in Botswana to find such an opportunity that gives an artiste wide exposure to the world. “Most of us musicians, are independent artistes, which means we lack capital to do a lot of things including; marketing and distribution since we just don’t have the budget,” he said, reiterating that this gives him a chance to be recognized globally. “I don’t undermine the mileage that I may get, and get to be known as an artiste just as a contestant for this competition; this on its own motivated me to be part of the competition so that other countries know about my work,” he said. He also added that he trusts his composition skills, which is one of the key factors that motivated him to join the competition too. He tells this publication that he is also aware that other local artistes are representing the country too and he is proud of that as he says it increases chances for the country to win. Out of all the contestants from the continent, top 20 will be selected and consequently five would be nominated to perform virtually on Africa Day on May 25th. At this stage, the public would be expected to vote for their winners, and one winner in the continent will walk away with a cash prize and a recording deal in Canada, with Chitleb.

Currently, there is online voting ongoing for the Africa song challenge contest and Alfredo Mos pleads with the public to vote for him. The link for voting can be accessed on his facebook page; ‘ Alfredo Mos & Les Africa Sounds’. The legend has composed outstanding songs back in the day and says that he cannot wait to be nominated the best composer for the African theme song. “I am fully aware that this is a competition with so many nations, but I just want to put my heart to it and see if I can’t emerge a winner for my country and Africa with my exceptional composition skills,” said Alfredo Mos.
