Troubled netball holds Indaba
The first sign of trouble was the departure of long time sponsors including Spar supermarket, followed by the dissolution of the national league which left the sport in disarray.
In a brief interview this week, incumbent BONA president, Malebo Raditladi- Nkgakile expressed a bit of indifference when she said the BONA executive committee comprises of volunteers and it will be up to the affiliates to decide which direction the troubled association takes. “Everything is all set for the AGM so far and we will have a BONA presidential debate tomorrow ( Thursday). So far only eight teams have complied at the Registrar of Societies ( RoS) while the other eight have failed to do so,” RaditladiNkgakile said. The BONA president further explained that most of the teams that have not complied are from the northern part of the country where only TAFIC has complied.
The weekend AGM, which is expected to be held under the Theme: “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID- 19 world,” is expected to weather the current COVID- 19 storm and lead netball in a more desirable direction.
According to BONA, the decision to suspend initial elective AGM was prompted by the realisation that none of the members and or teams satisfied article 8 ( b) and ( e) of the BONA 2009 Constitution.
“Membership of the Association shall be open to all netball clubs registered with the Registrar of Societies ( ROS) which shall fulfill registration and membership requirements in terms of this Constitution,” a recent letter, signed by Raditladi- Nkgakile reads.
It further indicates that the requirements for affiliation to the Association shall include the clubs’ Constitution, certificate of registration from the Registrar of Societies and payment of the annual subscription fees as agreed by the General membership from time to time.
“Teams have been requested to send all their registration and compliance documents directly to the BONA Secretary General by the
23rd of April 2021.”
So far clubs that are now compliant as BONA member affiliates are BDF Cats, Notwane, Prisons, Thamaga Jaspers, Vipers, Jungle Queens, UB Crystals and TAFIC.
Meanwhile, the weekend pitso will see a showdown between incumbent president Raditladi- Nkgakile, Thulaganyo Retshabile and Onkemetse Mpudi while Seipei Gaelesiwe is unopposed in her run for BONA Vice president ( projects and events). The position of Sports Development Officer will see Masego Serumola running unopposed. Furthermore, the marketing and public relations officer position will see Kereemang Montwedi and Mokeresete Mokeresete slugging it out.
