Task team recommends streamlining of school sports
Since the establishment of a fulltime structure can be a lengthy process, the task force team recommends that in the interim, and for a maximum of twelve ( 12) months, the organization and management of school sports competitions be delegated to the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development ( MYSC) district offices, along with the zonal coordinators and committees of BISA/ BOPSSA.
Moreover, the BNSC also has a dedicated and experienced games and competitions organizing department. The department has the capacity to support the delivery of school sports competitions.
The three ministries: Ministry of
Basic Education ( MoBE), Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development ( MLG& RD) and the Ministry of Health and Wellness ( MOHW) should also provide support to the national school sports governing body and its regional structures also have representation in the National Board and at zonal structures.
Most participants of focus groups and interviews confirmed that there should be one structure that manages school sports at primary and secondary school levels.
Participants also shared in the focus groups and the online survey that all stakeholders should collectively fund the single school sport governing body.
The proposed national school sports governing body structure has four ministries of MOHW, MoBE, MYSC and MLG& RD at the top. MYSC would then have BNOC and BNSC beneath them and all feeding the national school sport governing body. Beneath it would be the Zonal school committees followed by sub committees and lastly is Government and private schools at the bottom.
The 11 members of the Joint Force task team are Tapiwa Masunga as Chairperson, Ndondo Koolese Director, ( MoBE), Ronald Dlamini( MoBE) , Mogametsi Kowa ( MoBE), Bobby Gaseitsiwe ( BNSC), Tebo Segaise ( BNOC), Tshepang Tshube ( Sport Research Expert) , Joshua Gaotlhobogwe ( BISA), Selebatso Keabetswe ( BOPSSA), Tebogo Rapalai ( MLG and RD) and Lincoln Goitsemang ( MYSC).
