MEN NEED SPA PAMPERING TOO

- IRENE SHONE BG CORRESPONDENT

While beauty therapy is mostly accustomed to women, Getaway Beauty Boutique tries to eliminate this stereotype and promotes wellness for men through body therapy. The renowned boutique has just recently endorsed Timothy Sabuta, better known as DJ La Timmy as their brand ambassador with the hope to practically appeal to men that they too need spa pampering. Speaking from his experiences with the spa, DJ La Timmy tells BG Style that for him, the opportunity came at the right time in the midst of the pandemic as he is now revived and sees a better side of the light. He is of the view that one’s body needs to be rejuvenated once in a while and the existence of local spas are in place to serve this purpose. He admits that people generally feel low and exhausted but a spa can sort this out especially with the calm music instruments that soothe the soul. This is good for the mental well- being too. “My sessions have been amazing and worthy, looking at the stress I was going through because of Covid- 19,” he shared. However, it was not his first encounter with a spa as he used to book for at least massage therapy a while ago, but now he has learnt that there is more to massaging for men at a spa. “My experience with Getaway Beauty Boutique is an amazing feel. They offer different types of body therapy and amongst them I have already done facial scrub, full body massage, pedicure and waxing,” he says. He therefore emphasizes that beauty spas are not meant for women only as men too need self- wellness and body massage in particular as they often do physical work to provide for their families. “Men also need to look good, feel good and boost their confidence through their looks,” says La Timmy. He adds that a beauty spa helps one to relax and take a breather. “As men, we work hard to provide and protect but at some point we also need a time out to reboot or distress,” he reiterates.

He says as a male ambassador for the Getaway Beauty Boutique, it is an honour and an amazing experience. So, he encourages men to visit local spas as they book for their ladies in manicures and pedicures sessions, because he has observed that men also need that pampering to feel good. Gaolape says that for the longest time in the beauty industry, she has observed that they host more women than men. This is why they chose to endorse a male figure as their ambassador. She highlights that for their beauty sessions, they try as much as possible to place experienced people to deliver. “We have since incorporated practical training as we noticed that there is a huge gap in terms of skill from fresh therapists from school, because we want them to confidently grow this industry too,” she said. She emphasized that both men and women need a spa once in a while to distress, especially under hectic times of the pandemic where people are just stressed and disoriented.
