in their mother- tongue. What we need is a government that is sensitive to the needs of its people. Countless studies and researches have proven that mother- tongue instruction produces the best academic results. Nations that teach in their native languages not only manage to preserve their culture, but they also bring up well- rounded children that grown into responsible and patriotic citizens!

The Botswana Democratic Party Government must use this year’s theme to actualise the promises it made prior to the 2019 general election, promises that landed it the mandate to rule for another five- year term.

Those promises included a comprehensive review of the Constitution, which it can only be assumed, embraces even the call for mother tongue instruction in all schools.

We cannot turn a blind eye to the poverty and glaring disease burden ravaging our society, which vices have been exacerbated by the COVID- 19 pandemic.

In order to save our children for posterity from this monster, we urge Government to revise its inoculation plan by including teachers and lecturers in tertiary institutions among the most vulnerable that require urgent vaccination.

Striving for universal education that leaves no child behind must be the singular motive that drives all segments of our society and the government in our quest to build a knowledge economy.

Finally, we hasten to call upon government to procure relevant technological devices for all learners from primary to tertiary schools that can help them to face 21st Century realities of the 4th Industrial Revolution. This means injecting more resources towards investment in education.
